Pool builders by suburb in Brisbane
How much does a pool cost in Brisbane?
Pool prices in Brisbane vary with pool type, block access and site conditions. The figures below are indicative estimates only, based on typical ranges for the region.
| Pool type | Indicative range (estimate) |
|---|---|
| Plunge pool | $35k to $55k |
| Fibreglass pool | $45k to $75k |
| Concrete pool | $60k to $120k |
Sloping blocks, rock and restricted access can push costs toward the upper end of these ranges or beyond. Always get a site-specific quote before budgeting.
What to know about building a pool in Brisbane
Brisbane City Council is the relevant authority for pool approvals across most of the metro area. Many blocks are sloping, which can add retaining wall and engineering costs, and clay soils are common across the region, requiring appropriate footing and shell design. Western suburbs such as The Gap and Kenmore often have rock close to the surface, which can increase excavation costs. Character-housing overlays apply in some older suburbs and may affect siting, fencing style or approval timeframes. Tight inner-city lots often suit plunge pools better than larger concrete or lap pools, due to limited access and smaller yard footprints.
Pool safety and fencing are a mandatory part of any build in Queensland. See our guide to QLD pool fencing and safety certificates for what is required before your pool can be used.
How to choose a pool builder in Brisbane
- Check the builder holds a current QBCC licence. Our guide explains how to check a QBCC licence.
- Compare at least three quotes so you can see how site access, rock allowance and finishes affect price.
- Ask directly about rock, slope and access, as these are the most common causes of cost blowouts in Brisbane.
- Confirm who handles council approval and fencing compliance as part of the build.

Pool builders in Brisbane: common questions
How much does a pool cost in Brisbane?
Costs depend on pool type and site conditions. As a rough guide, plunge pools typically range from $35k to $55k, fibreglass pools from $45k to $75k, and concrete pools from $60k to $120k. Sloping blocks, rock and difficult access can push prices higher. These are estimates only, so get a site-specific quote for an accurate figure.
Do I need council approval to build a pool in Brisbane?
Yes. Most Brisbane pools need approval through Brisbane City Council, and some properties also fall under character-housing overlays that can affect siting and fencing. Approval requirements can vary depending on your suburb and block, so check with your builder or council early in the planning process.
How long does it take to build a pool in Brisbane?
Timeframes vary with pool type, approvals and site conditions. Sloping blocks, clay soils or rock, particularly in western suburbs like The Gap and Kenmore, can extend excavation and construction time. Your builder should give you a project-specific timeline once they have assessed your site and approvals are in place.
How do I check if a Brisbane pool builder is licensed?
All pool builders in Queensland should hold a current QBCC licence. You can verify this yourself before signing a contract. See our guide on how to check a QBCC licence for step-by-step instructions, and always confirm the licence matches the business you are dealing with.
Which pool type suits Brisbane blocks best?
It depends on your block. Tight inner-city lots with limited access often suit plunge pools, while larger suburban blocks can accommodate concrete or fibreglass pools. Sloping sites and clay soils common across Brisbane may add engineering requirements, so it is worth discussing your block specifically with a few local builders.
