How we rank pool builders
Our rankings use public, checkable data and a fixed formula. Nobody can pay to move up. Sponsored listings are shown separately and always labelled.
Step 1: who gets listed
We start with every business Google lists for pool building searches across 10 South East Queensland council areas. We keep only businesses that build or install new in-ground pools, then check each one against:
- the QBCC licence register (Queensland Building and Construction Commission),
- ABN Lookup (Australian Business Register), and
- the business’s own website for the pool types they build and the areas they service.
Businesses we cannot show are actively trading are left out.
Step 2: the score
| Factor | Weight | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Review quality (Google rating, adjusted for review count) | 55% | A 4.9 from 200 reviews says more than a 5.0 from 3. We use a Bayesian average so small samples are pulled toward the regional norm. |
| Review volume | 20% | More reviews means more completed jobs and a longer public track record. |
| Licence check | 15% | A licence we could match on the QBCC register. |
| Verifiable business details | 10% | Active ABN, years trading, a working website and clear service areas. |
Step 3: what we never do
- We never sell rankings. Paying for a Sponsored spot does not change a score.
- We never copy or edit reviews. Ratings link to the original Google profile.
- We never hide a builder because they decline to advertise.
Keeping it current
Ratings and licence checks are refreshed regularly and each profile shows the date it was last checked. Licence status can change at any time, so always confirm on the QBCC website before signing a contract. Spotted an error? Tell us.
